OBJECTIVES To provide the fellow with comprehensive knowledge of the practice of anaesthesia, surgical intensive care and acute pain management.
DURATION 12 months
CONTENT
- Acquire a good grounding of physiology, pathophysiology, pharmacology as related to the thoracic and principles for thoracic anaesthesia.
- Participate in assessment, peri-operative and post-operative management of patients requiring thoracic surgery.
- Anaesthesia management of patients for:
- coronary bypass surgery requiring cardiopulmonary bypass as well as those done without cardiopulmonary bypass.
- insertion of automatic implantable cardiac defibrillator devices and other cardiac procedures outside the main operating theatres.
- cardiac transplant and related support procedures.
- Observe and perform intraoperative transesophageal echocardiography and other monitoring techniques.
- Conduct one research project (optional).
ADMISSION CRITERIA
- Qualified anaesthetist, with at least 1 year’s clinical experience, who is interested in further specialisation in thoracic anaesthesia.
- Fluent in both spoken and written English.
