Fellowship Training in Nuclear Cardiology

OBJECTIVES
To provide the subspecialty nuclear cardiology fellow with the theoretical and practical aspects of nuclear cardiology, including SPECT sestamibi scintigraphy, MUGA scan tests and exercise stress test interpretation.

DURATION
6 - 12 months

CONTENT

  • Understand the theoretical aspects of nuclear cardiology.
  • Appreciate radiation physics and radiation safety.
  • Learn the practical aspects of the various techniques, including sestamibi and Thallium scintigraphy, and multigated blood pool scans.
  • Learn the various stress protocols involved including exercise stress, and pharmacological stress techniques utilising IV dipyridamole and dobutamine.
  • Master the interpretations of the various imaging results.
  • Be responsible for data entry and assist in patient care.
  • Participate in research projects.

ADMISSION CRITERIA

  • MMed, MRCP or its equivalent.
  • Completed 2 years of general training in Cardiology
