OBJECTIVES To provide the subspecialty cardiology fellow with the theoretical and practical aspects of clinical cardiology, preventive cardiology and cardiovascular rehabilitation.
DURATION 12 months
CONTENT
- Understand the pathophysiology of cardiovascular diseases, their symptomatalogy and problems in management.
- Learn the assessment and management of patients in an inpatient, outpatient and ICU/ CCU environment.
- Learn to select the most proper and cost effective investigative procedure.
- Learn the principles of electrocardiography and become skilled in the interpretation and reporting of electrocardiograms.
- Learn the principles and methodology of exercise electrocardiography and become skilled in the interpretation and reporting of exercise electrocardiograms.
- Learn the pathophysiology of exercise and its use in the rehabilitation of patients in an inpatient and outpatient environment.
- Learn the risk factors for cardiovascular diseases and risk factor modification for the prevention of cardiovascular diseases.
- Learn cardiovascular epidemiological principles and their applications.
- Be directly involved in the teaching of cardiovascular medicine and in the organisation of lectures, conferences and preparations of teaching materials.
- Be responsible for detailed data collection and data entry into the cardiovascular data bank.
- Develop protocols for research and become actively involved in research projects and publications.
ADMISSION CRITERIA
- MMed (Internal Medicine), MRCP (UK) or its equivalent
- Applicants who have completed 3 years training in internal medicine can also be considered.
