Fellowship Training in Cardiac Anaesthesia

OBJECTIVES
To provide the fellow with comprehensive knowledge of the practice of cardiac anaesthesia.

DURATION
12 months

CONTENT

  • Acquire a good grounding of physiology, pathophysiology, pharmacology as related to the heart and principles for cardiac anaesthesia.
  • Participate in assessment, peri-operative and post-operative management of patients requiring cardiac surgery.
  • Anaesthesia management of patients for:
    • coronary bypass surgery requiring cardiopulmonary bypass as well as those done without cardiopulmonary bypass.
    • insertion of automatic implantable cardiac defibrillator devices and other cardiac procedures outside the main operating theatres.
    • cardiac transplant and related support procedures.
  • Observe and perform intraoperative transesophageal echocardiography and other monitoring techniques.
  • Conduct one research project (optional).

ADMISSION CRITERIA

  • Qualified anaesthetist, with at least 1 year’s clinical experience, who is interested in further specialisation in cardiac anaesthesia.
  • Fluent in both spoken and written English.
