The four-year programme is designed to provide the trainee with clinical exposure to acquire advanced knowledge and competence in cardiovascular and thoracic surgery. The advanced trainee can choose either to spend the entire four years in approved institutions in Singapore, or two years in Singapore and two years overseas, or three years in Singapore and one year overseas.
If the advanced trainee has the aptitude and temperament, he/she will be fully trained by the end of the four-year programme. While one or two facets of cardiothoracic surgery may be a dominant part of the trainee's training experience, the trainee is required to be experienced in all aspects of the field.
